Regency

During a period of Regency, the Regent has the authority to govern and make decisions on behalf of the crown. They wield the regal powers and authority, acting as de-facto ruler and temporary guardian of the throne, ensuring stability and continuity in the realm until either the Monarch resumes their rule or a Crown Candidate can ascend. It is possible for the Regent to end up as the Crown Candidate themselves, though (for one reason or another) in Zarthurian history this has been a rare occurrence.

In Zarthura, periods of Regency most commonly occur as the result of the death of a Monarch. Some other reasons period of Regency could be triggered include:

• a Monarch unexpectedly and/or prematurely abdicating the throne
• a Monarch falling gravely ill or otherwise becoming incapacitated, either temporarily or permanently
• a Monarch going missing
• a Monarch leaving the realm for an extended period of time
• a Monarch being declared unfit to rule
