Electrum Gilders

Properly known as "electrum gilders", Gil are a Zarthurian currency minted from an alloy of silver and gold. One Gil is worth 5 Sterling; two Gil are worth one Crown.

In the Eternian Empire, Gil are only used to conduct governmentally regulated sales (including the purchase of magical or Luxury Goods, such as mithril weapons, Elysian Bronze armor, Lyrium, Materia, runestones, silk cloth, or army uniforms) or in the black market. Members of the The Eternian Armed Forces are given a portion of their salary in Gil which they are then expected to use to upgrade their equipment or replace old uniforms. Likewise, Magistrate and Senators are granted a quarterly stipend of Gil from the Minister of Riches, which they typically exchange for luxury goods or use to trade for favors.
