Mission Failure

When the party has reached a state where they can no longer attempt to successfully complete the mission, this is called Mission Failure. In most cases, Mission Failure is triggered by raising enemy Awareness beyond a certain threshold, but specific missions may have additional Mission Failure triggers, such as exceeding a time limit or the capture of an escorted NPC.

The consequences of Mission Failure depend on the nature of the mission. In some cases, it may still be possible to re-attempt the same mission at a later time. However, in these cases, the mission typically starts with Awareness levels already heightened and with additional Complications added to reflect the additional defenses added by the target in response to the previous attempt.
